Receive This Gift
Happy Friday!
I’m sure you are all familiar with the saying ‘It’s better to give than receive.’? I find that statement true, yet with a double meaning. When you give to others you in turn get something back as their happiness makes you feel good, so you’ve received the warm feeling of giving. How about when you receive an unexpected gift from someone and you don’t have a reciprocal gift? How does that make you feel? I know for me, that it used to (I’m still working on it) make me uncomfortable as I wasn’t prepared to share something with them. I was caught off guard and didn’t want to appear thoughtless that I hadn’t bought them something. Then there is the do I keep a few non-personal gifts on hand to be prepared and whip it out when an unexpected gift is given? That too felt uncomfortable.
Now I give and receive from my heart. Being able to truly appreciate receiving that unexpected gift feels so much better than worrying about not having something to give in return. Giving a gift and not worrying if they really like it and just enjoying the moment of sharing with family and friends feel a lot better than worrying about getting the ‘perfect’ gift. For me, it’s about creating memories.
Giving Quotes of the day:
“If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another.” ~ Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalia Lama
“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” Kahlil Gibran
“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” ~ Anthony Robbins
Receiving Quotes of the day:
“Each day offers us the gift of being a special occasion if we can simply learn that as well as giving, it is blessed to receive with grace and a grateful heart.” ~ Sarah Ban Breathnach
“Our bodies are at once the receiving and transmitting stations for life itself. It is the highest wisdom to recognize this fact and train our bodies to render them sensitive and responsive to nature, art, and religion.” ~ Ruth St. Denis
For the next week I invite you to:
GIVE:
An ear to someone who needs to talk
A smile to someone who needs to see brightness
A funny story to someone who needs a lift
A phone call to a distant family member or friend just to say “I was thinking of you”
Mostly I invite you to give to you! Be good to you, breathe, and don’t allow stress and worry into your being. Give peace, health, and happiness to yourself and in turn you will be able to give it to all around you.
RECEIVE:
Compliments – rather than saying any of these “it was no trouble at all, it wasn’t a bother, this old thing, etc…etc…etc”, simply say THANK YOU with a smile.
A smile – instead of rushing through the day, pay attention to those smiling around you, and receive their good mood as it will lift yours as well.
A helping hand – as you will have your turn to be that helping hand, perhaps not to the one helping you, but to another in need.
Mostly I invite you to receive the little daily gifts we often take for granted, the hug of a child, a loved one, a friend; the laughter all around, and the love you have for yourself and others.
My gift to you is wishes of love, laughter, joy, health, peace, and prosperity and that you are able to share all your gifts with those you love.
