Smooth Sailing
Summertime is here and to me, that means – it’s SAILING SEASON! I simply love being on the water whether it is day or night. I love the sunrise, sunsets, calm seas, big waves, and I love partaking and witnessing in the natural flow of water and life from the perspective on a boat.
For 12 years I raced sailboats competitively on Lake Michigan and loved it. I enjoyed being part of a crew and the camaraderie of accomplishing a common goal – sail the fastest course possible. You sail your best while looking for the marks (goals) around the race course. Depending on the size of the course, you often don’t even see the marks until you are close. Once you have the mark in sight, you still can’t sail directly to it as you need to move angularly toward the mark to catch the wind in your sails. You are constantly trimming (adjusting) your sails as the wind direction and velocity fluctuate. A well sailed race puts you in perfect harmony with the flow of the wind and the water.
Life can be very much like a well sailed race. By keeping sight of your goals while allowing your journey to take different directions to achieve them, you will reach your destination with fun and ease as you sail your course with the flow rather than against it.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
~Mark Twain

For the next week, I invite you to smoothly sail through life by:
Knowing you are on the right course for you. Regardless if the goal seems impossible, hold on to knowing you can accomplish anything by adjusting your course as needed.
Appreciating your current course by knowing whether it’s smooth seas or big waves, all experiences are part of your course. See the big waves (contrasting experiences) as simply adjustments towards your end goal of living the highest and happiest version of you.
Loving your journey by getting excited about where you are, where you’ve been, and where you are going.
Mostly, my wish for you is to adjust your sails to journey through life with a calm breeze at your back leading you to the happiest possible life filled with your biggest dreams.
Until next time, who wants to go sailing?
