If Only

Have you ever noticed someone with crutches and felt sorry for them knowing getting around is a little more challenging for them than you? Hobbling in large crowds or in the rain/snow requires more effort than those without crutches. Their crutches are a visible handicap. What crutches handicap you that we can’t see?

Is your crutch I’m not good enough so therefore you don’t try? If only I was younger/older, taller/shorter, smarter, prettier, richer, etc. Most of us (if not all) have a crutch or two that supports us in staying in our comfort zone which often isn’t even comfortable, but it is what we know. Are those crutches holding you up, or are they holding you back? Perhaps you aren’t even aware of yours.

Once you become aware of your potential crutches is when you can choose to remove them. Or you can continue to use them but from the knowledge it’s a choice rather than a crutch that creates your life. People are often willing to jump in and help you stand on your two feet by telling you how their lives are better because of x, y, and z. They will share how eating healthy and exercising has changed their lives or how meditation and spirituality is truly life altering, etc. All of these are amazing life enhancements, however, I first encourage you to embrace those crutches and thank them for getting you to this moment. You will be able to release the tight grip of your crutches from a space of gratitude, appreciation, and love for where you are right now. Don’t look back on where they held you but rather forward to where they’ve brought you. Put them in the closet knowing they will be there to support you if you need them, and the day will come when you toss them completely out. When standing from your own space of strength allows life enhancement changes to happen with grace and ease. Moments by moment, day by day, lean into your greatness and you will find inner strength and support to hold you up as well as the support of others.

Affirmation: I am kind and loving to myself and others.

If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.. there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we’re apart.. I’ll always be with you.” ~ Winnie the Pooh

For the next week I invite you to release your crutches by:

Being kind to you by knowing you are exactly where you should be. If you take the crutches out of the closet for a moment, or a day, that’s okay. You will stand on your own quicker if you release the need to beat yourself up about it.

Finding humor in life and release the seriousness you’ve viewed your perceived limitations. Smile, laugh, love and live.

Stepping out of the box: If you find yourself saying I can’t, I’m not, try on these words of: “I used to but now I” and allow your past crutches to dissolve.

Mostly, my wish for you is a week filled with empowerment knowing that you have the ability to change any belief, judgment or behavior that no longer suits you and you can celebrate EVERYTHING in your life from the good to the contrasting experiences that redirect you to what brings laughter, love and happiness into your life.

Until next week, if only you saw the greatness in you that I see, you would be skipping for joy.

 Hugs,
~Carol
