Winter gets long around this time of year. There have been enough snow days that I’m ready for spring. Unfortunately, we still have snow days ahead and cold days presently. To embrace these days that I can’t change, the kids and I had an indoor picnic. They brought their friends and we enjoyed our PPP (popcorn & pistachios picnic). It was sporadic, but has happened a few times already because we had
It’s amazing what difference a change of scenery can make. For one thing, we are closer to the windows so there is more sunlight on us. Another thing is we’re on the floor which is closer to both kids’ levels. Speaking of being on the floor, another benefit is that Michaela and Luca can interact more freely with each other. They sat nicely, shared their food and took care of each other’s ‘friends’. There happened to be music in the background (a benefit of an indoor picnic) so once they were done eating, they both popped up and started dancing 🙂
I won’t let picnics become the new norm, but every once and a while you gotta change things. Especially when you’re stuck indoors a lot because the weather won’t give up.
Whether you have kids or whether you’re a kid at heart, picnics bring a new dimension to a snack/meal. I’m about to email my husband and see if he wants to have a carpet picnic after we put Micha and Luca to bed (it’s Friday night, after all). Maybe it’ll stir up a new conversation, or maybe we’ll get up and dance ourselves (we can have music too). We can bring the coziness and relaxed feel of a picnic into our home. All we need is a blanket, some good food and good company. Check, check and CHECK!
This week, I hope you’ll find a way to enjoy being stuck indoors. Spring is coming–we just have to be patient. While we’re waiting we might as well enjoy ourselves.
Happy indoor-funning it 🙂
