Last summer we moved to Arlington, VA. When Micha and I were exploring our new neighborhood, we realized that there were two water fountains near by. Micha LOVES the water. That said, we spent many afternoons dipping our hands into the fountain.
Without warning, the fountains were drained. We were hit with the realization that ‘winter’ was upon us.
We were out of town this weekend. After Micha’s nap we went for a walk. All of a sudden Micha shouted, “AGUA!!” I turned my head and, sure enough, there was agua. The fountains had been refilled. Micha ran over and immediately started dipping her hand in to touch her much-missed water.
It put a big smile on my face. I love when I’m caught off guard by Micha. She notices little things and big things that I often take for granted because I’m used to the world. How I missed the soothing, refreshing sound of the water fountain surprises me, but I did—until Micha pointed it out.
Our children are often the eyes and ears we used to have. Ours have gotten blurry or hard-of-hearing, so pay attention and see what surprises lie in store for you this week. It’s fun to be caught off guard. Especially when the reality is it probably would’ve taken me a week or two to realize the fountains were refilled if it weren’t for Micha!
Oh, our little people. What treasures they are!

I am a happy mother of two. I’ve written for as long as I can remember. Since becoming a mother, I’ve started sharing my writing to connect with others and share what I learn. I hope to support parents through my writing because parenting challenges us (understatement) but also allows us to relive innocent, new experiences through the eyes of our children (amazing!).
