There are several milestones where we get to savor our child’s new ability. Luca started walking a month and a half ago. Those first 13 steps towards me make me smile every time I recall the moment. I envision his wobbly, chunky legs moving forward slowly and clumsily; his toes gripping the ground and holding on for dear life; his t-shapes arms to balance the sways of his upper body as he responds to his lower body; and best of all the expression on his face. Luca’s face went from uncertainty of what he could do to total confidence. In that short walk his smile grew bigger and bigger with each step.
My favorite moment of the walk was the end. Luca walked towards me and literally fell into my arms. He held himself up until he was a step away. Then he opened his arms up and threw himself around me, collapsing in my lap. He knew he’d done something big and you could tell he was proud of himself. I was SOOO happy to hug him immediately after and give him my “I’m sooo proud of you!” hug.
As you can see in this picture now he’s getting ready to run. He’s thinking about taking our dog along for the fun. He’s just testing out the leash to see if it’ll mess up his stride or not :).
Savor these milestones. Savor minor moments too. Find something to savor every day with your child. Pay attention. Soak in the joys that they bring you and be glad when you witness these amazing moments.
These milestones and heart-fillers. We can recall them whenever we need a boost and they’ll make our hearts beam with love, pride and joy,
Wishing you a joyful week with lots of heart-fillers.
